Glitter and Feathers

Evidently, my son has inherited my love of glitter.  I don't know where he's gotten the feather love from, though!  This was a homework assignment - this was his turkey feather!  The class put all of them together on a turkey.  I haven't yet seen it, but I hope I will soon!!

I finished up all of my custom orders for the year, and this was my favorite by far:
This was for a friend, and she wanted it to represent the fact that they are expecting a new baby - we decided to add an EGG!!!!  Isn't that darling?

I have to say, using the molds for the penguin bodies this year helped SO much with my turnaround time!  Being in school, and then my son's surgery 1 week and a half ago really made it hard to manage my time, but I think I've got the hang of it now.  :-)

Black Friday

If you want to shop in your pajamas, and avoid the crowds, I have a coupon code that's good through Monday.

THANKS20

This will get you 20% off your entire purchase!

I've had to stop taking orders for custom snowman and penguin ornaments a little earlier than I had planned. My son is having surgery on Thursday this week to address his sleep apnea issues, and I have a lot to do ahead of that to make sure I can give him my full attention while he's recovering.  I still have a few left to finish up, but should have those shipped out Monday or Tuesday.  In the meantime, here is an order that I sent out last week!

New Ornaments!

I've just been plugging away at ornament orders this week and last - these two went out yesterday!  Now I just have 3 left... I guess I'll be pretty busy this weekend and next week.  Fortunately, things have slowed down at school a little bit, so I'll have a little more time to get caught up.

Seeing how busy I've been with just one class has made me thing about my plans for 2013.  I'm going to hopefully be attending an accelerated graduate program next school year, so I will be VERY busy.  I'm letting you all know NOW, so you can start planning your ornament orders, if you want one for 2013.  I'll only be accepting a limited number of orders, and it will likely take a lot longer for me to get them shipped out, so with that in mind, I'll take orders for 2013 beginning in January, and ending mid-November.  I'll keep reminding everyone, but please know that it's not because I don't want to make them!  With my son in school full-time now, it's time for Mommy to head back out into the work force, and this is the first step!

Friday Shop Update

I got a few new things listed in the shop on Friday...  I went to my local bead shop on Thursday for a wholesaler trunk sale - it was FANTASTIC!  I especially loved this first bracelet - matte onyx, gray jade, crystals, and sterling silver.  I really loved the onyx as soon as I saw it, and I just had to have it!

I also picked up these little spiders at the bead store - perfect for Halloween, don't you think?

Kindergarten

It occurs to me that I forgot to blog about Stephen's first day of school! Sorry - this picture was taken before I took him to school. Normally, he rides the bus in the morning, but my mommy heart just couldn't take NOT walking him to his classroom on his first day of Kindergarten. And I totally didn't cry!

It has been 2 weeks since Stephen started school, and as expected he loves it! He is playing with the other children, and enjoys the addition of P.E., art class, and music class. This is not to say, however, that this has been a smooth transition. For the past 6 months or so, Stephen has been waking up early with increasing frequency. And by early, I mean 5am, and sometimes earlier. For the record, a 5-6 year old should be getting 10-11 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. Stephen is sitting on 9 most days. This started to become a daily issue over the summer, but we were hopeful that all-day kindergarten would wear him out enough to sleep longer, as he is really suffering from being so tired all day. We finally had enough, and took him to the pediatrician about this, and she suggested that we give him melatonin, and try to keep him up later. This is easier said than done - Stephen is ready to go to sleep usually between 7 and 7:30, instead of the 8pm that the doctor suggested, but we are keeping him up as best as we can. Unfortunately, it's not working very well after 1.5 weeks... Sadly, this has affected his behavior at home and school, as well as his school performance, but we are all working proactively to help him as much as we can.

Despite the sleep issues, Stephen's teacher reports that he is really a wonderful boy, and a joy to have around. That's what we love to hear!

New Schedule

Well, it's been back-to-school time around here!  My son started all-day kindergarten, and my husband is back to teaching as well... lest you think this leaves me to sit around all day eating bonbons, let me tell you what I'M up to!  I decided to go back to school too!!  I'm only taking one class this semester, since it's been 11 years since I was last in a college course, and frankly, it's taking a bit of extra work to remember how to study again.  Hopefully once I get back in to the swing of things, I'll be able to get a good blogging schedule set up too.

I have managed to make a few things over the past couple of weeks, though!  Everything can be found in the shop, of course.

I'm ready to pull out my clay here soon - I have a lot of ideas in my head right now, and just not much time for implementation.  So stay tuned!!

Still no photos

Sadly, 2 months later, I still don't have a new window in my dining room where I take my photos.  One was ordered, but evidently the contractor didn't measure correctly, so they had to order a second one, which should be ready in a couple of weeks.  In the meantime, I HAVE to find somewhere else to take my pictures today.  I currently have 3 pairs of earrings, 5 bracelets, and a necklace waiting to be photographed.

I did get a picture of this, though:

I've been holding off on working on Christmas ornaments because it's really hot, which makes it hard to work with my clay, and also because they are time-consuming, which makes them very daunting to me right now.  I am planning on making a mold of the bodies for the snowmen AND the penguins so that I can cut down on at least a little bit of the time to make these.  Hopefully my master plan will work, lol!

still no new pictures

...because I still don't have my new windows in yet.  Hopefully it will be this next week, though!  It's awfully dark in our house with 4 of our south-facing windows covered in plywood.  :-(

Is it hot where you live?  It's pretty warm here.  I think the high will be near 100 today, which is cooler than the past few days, although it's pretty humid.  Being from Southern Arizona, I'm pretty accustomed to the heat, but people aren't lying when they say, "but it's a DRY heat!"  It definitely feels a lot worse when it's 100* and humid, vs. 105* and dry... I swear it!

So, I was thinking about a sale... if you enter SUMMER at checkout, you'll get 25% off anything that is ready to ship.  Yes, this means you won't get a discount on an ornament...

What?!?  ORNAMENTS?  Yep.  Click the picture to head over to Etsy and see!

Psssssst!

We were on vacation last week, and of course I had to hit up a couple of my favorite Tucson bead shops... Unfortunately, my usual photo window is currently covered by a huge piece of plywood while we wait for our new windows (hopefully in the next few days), so I can't get any photos of my beads.  In the meantime, however, I just wanted to let you all know that yes, I'm still here, and today I'm planning on starting a prototype for a new style of Christmas ornaments!!  I'll still have the snowmen, but the polar bears were just too much for me, so I'm going to try something else new for this year!  I can't wait to show you all!!!!  :-)

So here's the thing...

I'm tired.  I'm really just exhausted.  This past month has been rough.  We passed a stomach virus around our house, and then after I got caught up from that, my son got done with school.  And on top of all of that, for whatever reason, no one has been sleeping particularly well in our house, which has left me with little motivation.  On top of that, we had a really bad storm come through 2 nights ago, and whatever free time I might have had for creating has been spent cleaning up glass from multiple broken windows, dealing with our insurance company, and picking up broken tree branches.  I'm trying to get back in to the swing of things, though.  It's just been hard.

Prior to all of this, though, I got these gorgeous yellow agate beads.  I love them so much.  This bracelet, and a pair of matching earrings went on a cruise to Mexico with my friend.

Her trip inspired me to make these earrings that make me think of lemon-lime margaritas.  :-)

I've been sitting on these acrylic coins for several months now.  They are HUGE!  But they are so lightweight, I knew they were just perfect for earrings.
And another Christmas bead necklace has found it's way to my Etsy shop.

I do have a lot of new ideas in my head, and even a few new pieces waiting to be photographed (1 bracelet, 2 anklets, and a necklace).  At the moment, I just need some time to take some pictures and get them listed. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the swing of things after a few nights of good sleep!

Some OTHER Pretty Things

THIS is what I've been up to for the past few weeks. My parents were here, and my mom and dad helped me tile the backsplash in our kitchen. Doesn't it look great?

We also installed a new range hood. The old one was not the right size for the space, and since we were fixing up the kitchen, we decided that we didn't want to live with it any longer.

The counters are Quartz, for anyone wondering. We kept our existing cabinets, because, well, we didn't want to spend a ton of money.

I have also spent a considerable amount of time painting the interior of our house. I've painted every room except my husband's office, which I will probably get to this summer. We thought that we might be moving, so I decided to paint in anticipation of putting the house on the market, but we are staying put for at least another year, so now I get to enjoy a fresh house, and a GORGEOUS kitchen!! So this is why Patty's Pretty Things has been a little quiet lately. But I'm back in the swing with new ideas, and new inventory, so stay tuned!

Happy Etsy-versary to ME!

Today, March 1, is my THIRD anniversary of selling on Etsy. In honor of this occasion, I am going to give away a prototype of a new product that i hope to have in my shop soon - a ring dish! This is great to have by your kitchen sink, so you can take off your rings while washing dishes, or on your bedside table to keep track of your rings when you go to bed.

The polymer clay dish goes from pink to yellow, and has a gold shimmer dust. The dish has been given several layers of a glossy finish.

(no, you don't get the ring - It's mine!)

All you have to do is leaving me a comment here. Nothing specific, just a comment to say hello! I'll announce the winner on March 8th. :-)

My other gift to you all is a COUPON CODE!!!! SOOOOOOO, if you want to save 20% for the next week on all ready-to-ship items (no custom orders - sorry!!), enter THIRTY at checkout. Happy Etsy-versary!

What I've been doing...

I've been neglecting Patty's Pretty Things, and I know it. It makes me sad, but sometimes, life takes over and the fun stuff has to be put on the back burner. As I've said before, I try not to "work" when my son is home, unless he's sleeping, and I've had another project come up, and it has really taken a lot of time. I've been PAINTING my house. So far, I've painted walls and cabinets in 2 bathrooms, including this one:

The color used to be kind of a taupe-y yellowish color, which wasn't bad, but it looked tired and blah. Since we had the new tile put down for the counters, it really needed a new paint job too. And since I was painting THAT bathroom, I needed to finish up the cabinets in the other bathroom too (just white), where I also replaced the hardware.

Next up, was the hallway (same color as the bathrooms, so no pics - the color is Classic Taupe, by the way), and THEN, the kitchen. We recently had quartz counter tops installed, and I wanted to continue to lighten up the kitchen by painting the walls a lighter color. They used to be a darker sea-foam green color, and now they are "Turtle Dove," which is a very pale mint color.

Why am I doing this? Well, it was just time. Our house looks dingy, and new paint is sprucing things up. I have 3 bedrooms and 2 living spaces left to paint, but those should be much easier than the kitchen and bathrooms (I hope!!!!). I hope to get started on a bedroom next week, but for now, I'm resting my arms a bit - painting is a WORK OUT!

****************************************

My Etsy-versary is coming up on March 1 - I've been on Etsy since 2009! I have a couple of fun things up my sleeve to celebrate, and to apologize for ignoring my pretty things. So stay tuned!

Some new stuff

I finally had some time last week to sit down and play with my clay again, and I decided to play with some chalks and ink treatments, and came up with this sunburst pendant! I like the rustic and "unfinished" appearance, and the colors are just so bright and lovely!

For a little more color, I added some orange howlite and red web jasper, and hung it from brass chain. I'm really happy with this little necklace, and fingers are crossed that it finds a good home!

Happy 2012!

After I closed up shop, I cranked out some ornaments for gifts. These stars were for Stephen's teachers. I also made 4 in gold - 8 in total. They were all well-received, from what I hear. :-)

I made this little bird for my Aunt, who LOVES birds! She had purchased 3 custom bird ornaments earlier this year, and this one was just a little bit different. I realize the photos are a bit blurry - I was about to package them off for shipping when I remembered that I wanted to take a picture!

This is the other side of the ornament. It's hard to tell, but the color is kind of a light blue-granite color.

I really liked making that bird! I'm planning on writing up a little tutorial for it in the next couple of weeks, and I'll probably make some for sale for next holiday season. I also came up with my idea for new family ornaments for next season too - PENGUINS!

I have a lot of new ideas for this year, but I'll probably take a little longer getting everything created than I'd like. I've undertaken the project of painting the interior of our house, as well as tiling a back splash in our kitchen after we get our new counter tops in a couple of weeks. It should be a busy spring here!
